Summer Solstice

Hay guys~ Is summer solstice!! I don't know about this day until today. Saw the special design of the Google web, I know today should be something special---> Summer solstice.

Summer solstice is when the Earth's axial tilt is most inclined towards the sun, at its maximum of 23° 26'(Wikipedia). So, today will be the day where day is the longest and night is the shortest. ^^ Since Malaysia is located around middle of hemisphere(near to Equator), I don't think Malaysian can really enjoy this longest day. Summer solstice is a new start of the summer. It occurs every year around June (for Northern Hemisphere) or December (for Southern Hemisphere).

Summer solstice also called as midsummer by some other country. They will celebrate it with dancing & bonfires to help increase the sun's energy. The Chinese marked the day by honoring Li, the Chinese Goddess of Light. (http://www.chiff.com/a/summer-solstice.htm)
Some of them think that summer solstice is the day of wedding between Heaven and Earth, which many people believe is the "lucky wedding day" in June. (So what are u waiting for?? Go for a wedding today!!! XD)

Some other fun fact for summer solstice:

  • Pagans called the Midsummer moon the "Honey Moon" for the mead made from fermented honey that was part of wedding ceremonies performed at the Summer Solstice.

  • Ancient Pagans celebrated Midsummer with bonfires, when couples would leap through the flames, believing their crops would grow as high as the couples were able to jump.

  • Midsummer was thought to be a time of magic, when evil spirits were said to appear. To thwart them, Pagans often wore protective garlands of herbs and flowers. One of the most powerful of them was a plant called 'chase-devil', which is known today as St. John's Wort and still used by modern herbalists as a mood stabilizer.
People celebrate this day because it is special where it only occur once a year. But if u cherish all your day you have, everyday is Summer Solstice; everyday is the 1st day of Summer; everyday is a good start; everyday is lucky day. ^^
